I can't decide if this is
a motorcycle tour that includes scuba diving or if it is a scuba dive tour
that includes motorcycling? But one thing I do know for sure is that if
you love motorcycles & love scuba diving, there has never been an opportunity
to mix both pleasures together so enjoyably and seamlessly.
Even if you don't know how to scuba dive, don't let that
stop you because on this ASIAN MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURE motorcyde tour, diving
instructions are included! By the middle of this trip you will complete
your scuba diving certification course and become a fully-fledged diver.
(However, you must already be a licensed motorcyclist to participate, and
some off-road riding skills will be needed.)
This motorcycle tour (scuba-diving tour?)
takes place in the Visaya Islands of The Philippines, where some of the
world’s most beautiful waters, beaches, and diving are to be found.
The Visayas are a tourist-friendly group of tropical islands, and unlike
all the other countries in Southeast Asia, nearly every citizen in The
Philippines speaks English, so cultural exchanges and making new friends
are easy.
We can not possibly visit all 6,000 islands in
the Visaya Island chain, but we will visit eight of the major ones over the
course of 9 days. The eight islands we have chosen offer the best combination
of diving, biking, and culture.
This
10-night/9-day motorcycle-scuba diving tour starts and ends in Cebu City,
a world-class resort island in its own right, and a convenient place to
fly into and out of. You are advised to get here a couple of days
early to unwind from jet-lag. A great place to do this is at the WATERFRONT
HOTEL & CASINO, Cebu City’s finest hotel and ASIAN MOTORCYCLE ADVENTURE'S
starting and ending lodging facility.
This SCUBA-DRIVE motorcycle tour price
covers virtually everything: 10 nights of private hotel rooms with 3 meals
per day. Included on the motorcycling
end of things are the motorcycles (Honda 200cc XLR’s), petrol, and
all inter-island transport. Two motorcycle tour guides will escort
you on this tour, along with a mechanic and support vehicle to carry your
belongings and diving gear so you always ride light and unencumbered.
On the scuba end of
things, the tour includes 13 dives, diving equipment, plus
instructions
from a PADI instructor at every dive site. If you do not know how
to dive, you can take the course that leads to the PADI OPEN-WATER DIVER
certification. If you already are certified, you may pursue any other
diving certification specialty you desire as part of this tour package.
There is a tremendous variety of diving available in the Visaya Island
dive sites we visit. Dive choices at each resort area will appeal to amateurs
right up through experts.
What is not
included in this Scuba-Drive Tour package is airfare, non-mealtime
snacks and drinks, alcoholic beverages, and items of a personal nature,
such as laundry, phone calls, etc.
This SCUBA-DRIVE
Tour will unfold thusly:
The day
before the tour begins, we will all meet at the fabulous WATERFRONT
HOTEL & CASINO in Cebu City, for a participants meeting and
briefing.

On the 1st day we
drive northwards over an excellent mountain road. passing many small fishing
villages and rural scenery. We then enter
a vast area of sugar plantations, one of the Philippines earliest and
still-thriving industries. At the north-tip of Cebu we leave our bikes
and take a boat to tiny and bucolic MALAPASCUA ISLAND, where motorized
vehicles are banned. Rustic cabins
right on the beach are tonight’s lodging.
The very first afternoon we start
diving. Beginners on the tour will begin their coursework, and by
the third or fourth day of this motorcycle tour you should complete your
certification as a fully-fledged OPEN WATER DIVER.
Certified divers can choose between caves, coral gardens,
or wreck dives, and one should be able to see the more common denizens
of Malapascua’s underwater world, which include sharks, mantas, turtles,
dolphins, and nudibranches.
On
the 2nd day we drive southwards along Cebu’s western
shoreline, passing more
tiny fishing and farming hamlets. There will also be a few ancient Spanish
churches and watch towers to visit along the way. A bizarre cemetery is
on this route that we will visit as well.
Our goal is MOALBOAL, a beach resort area started by divers that
is now in the earliest stages of commercial development. It is a
fun little town with enough night action to keep you red-eyed the next
morning. Moalboal’s underwater highlights include: giant frogfish,
sponges, big-fish schools-- often shark or tuna, a vertical
tunnel, cave diving, coral gardens, as well as some very nice beach dives.
Our lodging tonight is a bungalow resort with a swimming pool.
We leave Cebu Island from
its southern point on the morning of the 3rd day, and
load the bikes and ourselves on a local pumpboat for a cruise across the
Tanon Strait to NEGROS ISLAND. Then it’s a short ride
to a town called DAUIN, which is situated nearby a marine preserve
and the volcanic island of Apo. Drift diving, wall diving, and night diving
are all available. Commonly-sighted species here are seahorses,
ghost pipefish, lion and scorpion fish in many varieties, sharks, and
there is even a site called Clownfish City. Lots of coral and sponges
the end of this day, most of the beginner divers will have earned their
certification and with your newly-earned confidence and familiarity underwater,
a lot more of the ocean floor will be open to you.
By the end of this day, most of the beginner divers will have earned their
certification, and with your newly-earned confidence and familiarity underwater,
a lot more of the ocean floor will now open up to you.
The 4th day entails a lengthy sea cruise toSIQUIJOR
ISLAND and this is the first day on this motorcycle tour without any
diving scheduled. Instead we will explore Siquijor by bike.
The people of Siquijor are said to be immersed in the supernatural arts,
openly practiced by resident witches, healers and medicine men.
SIQUIJOR is a small and lovely island and perfect for a motorcycle day
ride. There will be some stretches on Siquijor where off-road riding
experience is needed.
The 5th
day is a diving-only day and we never have to leave our resort or
touch our motorcycles. It is also a good day to catch up on some
poolside relaxation. 3 dives are scheduled if you can handle it,
because there is plenty to see here: lionfish, rays, razor fish, clownfish,
unicorn fish, big tunas in big schools on the hunt for anchovies, large
barracuda, flatworms, nudibranches, volcanic rock fingers, fan corals,
and wall and cave diving.
Another sea
cruise from Siquijor takes us to perhaps the prettiest of all the Visaya
Islands, BOHOL, on the
6th day. This ride across the Bohol Sea is particularly
pleasant. There are two great diving spots on BOHOL and we visit both
of them.
Our first day
on BOHOL we drive to PANGLAO ISLAND where wrasses, butterfly fish,
glassfish, sea snakes, a grouper cleaning stations, and gigantic fan corals
are common. Cave and drift dives are available.
It
is only a short motorcycle ride and a short boat ride to CABILAO
ISLAND, just off the coast of BOHOL, on our 7th
day. The dive highlights here are hammerhead sharks, rock overhangs,
cracks, coral gardens, gorgonias, crinoids, sponges, soft and hard corals.
We spend
the 8th day of this tour riding around BOHOL, which
has the best roads on any of the Visaya Islands, thanks to an ex-Philippine
president being born here. The riding highlights on Bohol are the Chocolate
Hills, a unique and highly unusual land formation. We also will visit
a fighting-rooster farm, and if there is a cock-fighting tournament going
on while we are on Bohol (very likely), we will catch that action as well.
Cock-fighting is a Philippine passion, and matches are televised, complete
with slo-mo camera work and blow-by-blow commentary.
The last day of the tour is now at hand, and
on our 9th day we take our last boat ride back to Cebu
Island. We're sure the experiences of this Philippine SCUBA-DRIVE Tour
will last you a lifetime and that one day, on your own accord, "you
shall return", as did General McArthur who coined that famous phrase.
The
next PHILIPPINE SCUBA-DRIVE MOTORCYCLE TOUR IS planned for 2011. However,
custom SCUBA-DRIVE tours can be organized in the Philippines for private
groups at any time upon request. Please contact A.M.A. for further
details:
